CURL and the Scrappy Model: Opening the “Black Box” of Collaborative Research
"How can a university-based research center best serve as a connecting point to create collaborative research among a diverse research team? How can that research serve as a pedagogical opportunity for students while also producing rigorous and practical research for community partners and academic research opportunities for faculty?

This panel will bring together a CURL research team made up of a student, a community partner, center staff, and a faculty member to unveil the “how” of CURL’s “scrappy model.” We will cover the multitude of ways undergraduate students participate in community based research through classes, fellowships, and volunteer opportunities to connect with the partners rooted in Chicago communities.

The panel will also address the creative and innovative aspects of the collaborative research model with examples of flexibility and unexpected variables that led to exciting and rich research projects."
